Chronological Events of the History of ICS

 

January 1998:               
Meeting was called by the Office of Academic Affairs headed by Dr. Lilian Sison

February 1998:
Ad Hoc Committee for IT programs was formed to formally
                        Dr. Gloria C. Bernas – Chair
                        Engr. Alberto Laurito – Co-Chair
                        Engr. Cecilia Espinosa – Member (Engineering)
                        Engr. Ma. Beatrice Lacsamana – Member (Engineering)
                        Dr. Chin Uy  - member (Commerce)
                        Ms. Perla P. Cosme – member (Science)
                        Ms. Ma. Bettina Trinidad – member (Science)

May:                            
May 1998 design curricula for B.S. Computer Science, B.S. Information Management, and B.S. Information Technology based on CHED Memo No. 25 (minimum standards for ITE programs)

September 1998:
Submission of required documents to CHED-NCR for the following programs:
Renaming of B.S. Mathematics Major in Computer Science to B.S. Computer Science
Renaming of B.S. Commerce Major in Information System Management to B.S. Information Management
New program B.S. Information Technology

October 1998 – June 1999:
Renovation, of computer laboratories (CL-1 & CL-2, and Room 305)
Purchase of new 100 computers to house the new computer laboratories
June 1999 – Department of Information and Computer Studies was established with Perla Pascua-Cosme as the first chairperson with only 4 full time faculty members (with a number of borrowed faculty members from different colleges.

June 1999:
First batch of students numbered approximately 175, No official enrollees for B.S. IT because it was not included in the list of programs offered in the University

June 2000:
Freshmen application form formally include BS IT as one of the regular curricular offerings of the College of Science

June 2001:
Increased the number of sections for BSCS from 2 to 3.

March 2003:
Produced the first batch of graduates

June 2003:
Increased the number of sections for BSCS from 3 to 4, and for BSIT from 1 to 2.
Transfer of facilities and relocation of the whole ICS department from College of Science to Faculty of Engineering but the administration and management is still with College of Science

June 2004:
The department was officially turned over from the College of Science to Faculty of Engineering with Rev. Fr. Lana as one of the guests.

March 2005:
            First batch of graduates under the Faculty of Engineering

June 2005:
            The ICS department was chaired by Engr. Cecilia Espinosa

June 2006:
A new computer laboratory with 50 new terminals was added to the existing 2 computer laboratories
A new curricula for the ICS programs were in place.

June 2007:
Increased the number of sections for BSCS from 3 to 5, BSIT from 3 to 5 sections, BSIM from 1 to 4 sections.

The name of BSIM has been changed from BSIM to BS Information System as per CMO 53 series of 2006

The Department has now 16 full time faculty members with 4 of them on leave for industry practice/immersion.

Aside from the chairperson, the Department has for the first time, appointees for the IT, and IS programs. The chairperson serves at the same time the coordinator for the CS program.

The student population has almost 1,400 students.
